ContentToday, books are still the primary medium of instruction in most schools. It is doubtful if these will totally be replaced by digital technology reading tools, but there are now perceptions that virtual literacy may very well ease out textual print literacy.Nowadays, technology is being viewed as a savior. Given the fact that students are enamored by computer games which take much of their time at home, educators have begun to think that computer screen can very well serve as a powerful educational medium. Already computer games have been adopted in developed countries as a learning technology along with other audio-visual aids to teaching-learning.Use of tablets in public schools in the country may be difficult considering certain factors: (a) Cost of one tablet for one student is not within budget capability or beyond capability of government which cannot even fully comply with one book for one student (b) Books have more durability compared with electronic gadgets due to handling, energy charging, heat and moist (c) Technical expertise for the learning software is not widely available.Conditions in Philippine education show youths in far-flung areas not reached, number of classrooms and facilities, number of classrooms and facilities inadequate, quality of work life of teachers below standards.ExperiencesAs I have observed, people don’t use tablets plainly for entertainment purpose. They also store information even books just like what I do sometimes; I save ebooks and even pages that I can read offline. And I also envy how DLSU was able to implement making tablets s their forms of textbook because one would really measure the school’s standards by its facilities.ReflectionI would really agree if ever they would implement tablets to be used as books in school. It is very handy and it could be updated anytime. The student’s won’t be sick in carrying heavy bags with lots and thick books. Since tablet is on trend, a school won’t be left behind. It is also effective instrument since most of the times, students spend long hours playing with their tablet but when it is used as a textbook, of course students would then mind and encouraged to study their lessons.ApplicationThis lesson emphasizes on having tablets as substitutes for textbook. Tablets will then be used as storage of information and activities in all topics. The teacher could use software or any computer programs to demonstrate or explain the topic further.

Lesson 18 Tablets for Textbooks in Schools
Lesson 17 Educational Technology 2 Practicum
Educational technology 2 offers
students the experiential process of adapting to technology integration within
a student-centered paradigm. This is the practicum phase of the course which
can be done, as seen fit by the teacher, either at the end of more theoretical
lesson or inserted between lessons.
The essential
requirements for ET 2 practicum phase will be:
·
A computer laboratory classroom with adequate
sets of computers for hands-on tutorial learning
·
Participation of computer lab tutor/assistant to
assist the learner with the use of the computer and its various programs
·
Assigned number of hours in conformity with the
course requirement.
The practicum
phase consists in:
1.
Basic Microsoft Word (6 hrs.) – The tutorial will
help the learners to familiarize the basics of Microsoft Word from its menus
and toolbars to the editing and formatting of texts, sentences and paragraphs.
2.
Microsoft PowerPoint (6 hrs.) – It aims to train
learners to prepare PowerPoint presentations to enhance the teaching of the
subjects.
3.
Internet as a tool of Inquiry (4hrs.) – The
tutorial will facilitate the finding of sources of information appropriate to a
learning task.
Experience
There
are times when i teach my younger siblings and other people in doing the basics
of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and surfing the net. By that, I could say that I
am confident to teach other people of what I know since it was already covered
by the educational technology 2 course.
Reflection
In
doing such tutorial to those who doesn’t know will be a way for us to practice
and refresh what we already know. Thus, educational technology 2 promises to
bring student teacher and the professional teacher trainee to the challenge of
new age so that they’ll be equipped with knowledge and skills as they face the
modern era of learners.
Application
The
brisk pace of technology advancement and innovation continues and educational
technology 2 is a preparation to bring teachers to move ahead with the use of
technology in the classroom.
Lesson 16 THE INTERNET AND EDUCATION
This lesson
tackles about the Internet, also simply called the Net, is the largest and
far-flung network system of all systems. Surprisingly, the Internet is not
really a network but loosely organized collection of about 25,000 network
accessed by computers on the planet. How is everything coordinated through the
Internet? This is done through a standardized protocol called Transmission
Control protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). To gain access to the Internet,
the computer must be with what is called a Server which has special software
that uses the Internet protocol.
The most
attractive way to move around the Internet is called browsing. Using a program
called a browser, the user can use a mouse to point and click on the screen
icons to surf the Internet, particularly the World Wide Web (the Web), an
Internet’s subset of text, images, and sounds are linked together to allow
users to access data or information needed.
Educational
software materials have also developed both in sophistication and appeal. There
is now a wider choice from rote arithmetic or grammar lessons to discovery and
innovation projects. But the real possibility today is connecting with the
world outside homes, classrooms, and Internet cafes. And today schools are
gearing up to take advantage of Internet access, where they can plug into the
Library of Congress, make virtual visits to famous museums in the world, write
to celebrities, and even send questions to heads of states.
Experience
Nowadays,
students especially those living in civilized areas could reach or are
connected in an internet. As a student, I’ve been using internet especially
when I have to do research on my project and assignments. I browse the internet
whenever I am connected to a wifi or even with a mobile data. The information
in the net is just quick and easy, you just need to consider whether the
sources or reliable or not so you must read what is stated and not to just
click everything.
Reflection
Most
students nowadays rely on the net and I am not against that since the internet
offers a quick and easy access to information and communication making their
jobs easier and faster. The internet also provides entertainment and updated
information unlike books. When compared to books, using the internet is
feasible than searching the whole books in the library for the content you
wanted to know. Thus, internet has a positive effect as it is used in
education.
Application
The future
of the Internet seems limitless. Already its complexity has spawned and
continues to spawn Net sites including new demand for services to business,
industries, science, government, and even homes. Thus, as the internet widens
its range of connectivity, updated information could be gathered making it an
advantage to the teaching-learning process because students could get the
latest update of information thru the net.
Lesson 15 Understanding Hypermedia
Hypermedia is nothing but multimedia, but this
time packaged as educational computer software where information is presented
and student activities are in a virtual learning environment.
The presentation of information-learning activities in hypermedia is said
to be sequenced in a non-linear manner, meaning that the learner may follow his
path of activities thus providing an environment of learner autonomy and
thinking skills. This fact makes it therefore important to understand
hypermedia in the educational context in order to ensure their successful integration
in the teaching-learning process.
There are two important features that characterize the hypermedia
software:
1. Learner control.
This means the learner makes his own decisions on the path, flow or
events of instruction. The learner has control on such aspects, as sequence,
pace, content, media, feedback, etc. that he/she may encounter in the
hypermedia learning program.
2. Learner wide range of navigation
routes.
For the most part, the learner controls the
sequence and pace of his path depending on his ability and motivation. He has
the option to repeat and change speed, if desired. The learner also has a wide
range of navigation routes such as by working on concepts he is already
familiar with. They may even follow a linear or logical path.
Experience
In simple words, these hypermedia are combinations of multimedia in software. As the statement above
says, these hypermedia are commonly used by students and it’s not new to me
since I’ve been using that ever since I was introduced by computers. It also includes
the text, graphics, music and etc.
Reflection
Hypermedia is decidedly a lot better
than the traditional classroom learning especially in today’s age where
computer is a major influence among the learners. It allows the learners to
independently learn and determine his pace of learning. Unlike in the
traditional learning where the student has to keep pace with his peers and has
to see to it that he absorbs the lessons of the teacher, in hypermedia, the
student has more leeway to learn at his own pace, thus making learning more
personalized.
Application
Teachers that follows the traditional method can also make use of hypermedia
by using books and other materials in the classroom and let the students
explore and have some activity that would cater their skills most especially
the analytical and creativity skills. Sine hypermedia could provide an
atmosphere of search, exploration and discovery.
